Happy New Year!

Hey everyone! Really sorry for the lack of updates, but we’ve all been so busy with studies and what not… Anyway, here’s a quick heads-up regarding KR Aca’s activities for the coming few months:
On the 25th and 26th of February, you can find us performing at the Esplanade Concourse (7.15pm and 8.15pm on both days), where we’ll be bringing to you some jazz and blues pieces, guaranteed to make you feel depressed… not! So come down and catch us at the Esplanade Concourse!
Then on the 18th of March, we will be at Amplitude, a combined concert featuring choirs and a cappella groups from the NUS Halls of Residence. Be sure to catch us in action then because it’s free!
Finally, we’ll be having our annual concert in-hall on 24th March, featuring some of the tunes from our Esplanade outing, as well as other sweet harmonies. You can expect to have a blast!
That’s all from me for now! See you at our performances!

National A Cappella Championships 2008

KR A Cappella sent a team to compete in the Open category at this year’s A Cappella Championships, and we came in second!

We also won prizes for audience favourite (thanks to our vocally-trained fans with their loud cheering) and best costume (for outfits that best matched our song set). Thanks again to the supporters!

Our team, the acafellas, comprised Tina, Lishi, Jia Xin, Joel T, Vernon, Elvin (chief arranger), Glen and Allen and we presented two pop pieces – Maroon 5’s “Makes me wonder” and Snow Patrol’s “Chasing cars”.

Catch us at next year’s championships!

Aca Concert 2008

Yep it’s the end of the Culture month. KR Aca put a well-deserved fullstop on this mad month of performances with our in-house concert. This year’s concert was held in the KR Dance studio, a small and cosy space. The concert also featured the debut of our 2nd-semester additions, Meisi and Lin (Yes, that Lin).

Some highlights of this year’s concert:

Original songs such as our National Day Songs Medley (below) and Techno Medley.

Classic favourites from Singapore’s own Budak Pantai like “Abuden” (below), “The moon dai biao wo de heart” and “Wo shi zhen de”.

And many more! Including “Internet Porn” and “Enormous Penis” by Da Vinci’s notebook, “O Holy Night” by N’Sync and “Ain’t no Sunshine”.

Many thanks to those who came down and squeezed into the dance studio to support us! For those who couldn’t make it down, there’s always next year!

Anyway, it’s time for all of us to buckle down and start preparing for exams. The next event that we’ll be involved in is the National A Cappella Championships this coming July – come and give us your support as we’ll probably be fielding a few teams!

Amplitude 2008

Hey! Sorry for the very very late updates but Culture Month here at Kent Ridge Hall just ended and we’re finally breathing a sigh of relief :)

Anyway, Amplitude (an annual event where choirs and a cappella groups from all the halls of residence come together to put up a show) 2008 went by on the 16th of March. As always, KR A Cappella put up a dazzling show with stylish dressing, tight choreography and, of course, plenty of good ‘ol harmony. We are an A Cappella group, after all.

This year we presented 2 songs at Amplitude: “Hitori”, a close harmony japanese tune done by the Gospellers; and Songs of the Sirens (SOS), an upbeat original composition we used for last year’s Aca Nationals, arranged by Elvin and Melissa, consisting of the songs “Let’s get loud”, “Sweet dreams” and “Sway”.
